Remote Area Power Systems

Our RAPS systems harness Australia’s abundant sunshine and convert it directly into pollution-free electricity where there is no existing power grid. Typically our systems supply 30% to 50% of the power requirement of a remote area home and have a diesel generator, either existing or supplied new, as an integral part of the overall system. Most Australian states have incentive programs in place where the installation of a RAPS solar power system is eligible for a Federal Government rebate.

RAPS Components

As with any system, the reliability and longevity of it depend entirely on the quality of the components used.

To this end Solar Sales rely heavily on its 25 years experience in the solar industry and that of its experienced design staff to select only those components that have been shown to perform to specification.

The major components in a RAPS system are as follows:

Solar Modules:
The solar modules used are those manufactured by SunPower Corporation. These solar modules are the most energy efficient available on the world market today.The SunPower modules feature mono-crystalline, all back-contact cells made form the highest quality silicon material available. As a result the modules perform better than any other in low light condition and high ambient temperatures.The result of this leading technology is that the solar modules provide more useful power over a full day than any other module on the market today. Being the most powerful solar module available, it also means that for a given power rating, far less area is required and this results in lower framing, wiring and labour costs.

Batteries:
The battery type, construction and warranty are critical for reliable overall system operation. Solar Sales uses predominately fully sealed, maintenance free VRLA battery cells made by EnerSys, the world’s leading battery manufacturer. The cells being sealed are safer to handle and transport and do not requiring watering. Solar Sales ensures that the battery bank capacity is designed to the average load requirements of the clients home so that the battery bank is not cycled or discharged beyond the manufacturer’s recommendations, ensuring the best possible service life.

Inverter/Chargers:
Quality inverter/chargers provide the AC output power to efficiently run all the homes power appliances. Conversely the battery charging function of the inverter/charger is needed to efficiently recharge the battery bank at those times when the generator is called upon to assist the solar modules to recharge the battery bank
